Emma has been working on not talking in her class the last few months. Some weeks are better than others. Her teacher does a color code for their behavior and Emma kept coming home with yellows and oranges (which are several warnings). I first asked her to try hard not to talk so much. After it continued, I started punishing her when she would get multiple oranges in a week. Still she seemed to be struggling. Nothing seemed to be working. Finally, Lance suggested that instead of punishing her for not doing good we should reward her for doing good. Instead of saying "Emma if you get another orange you will . . . go to bed early, or get no dessert tonight." We tried saying " If you get 3 whites (teachers color for being good) you will get a surprise
like . . . her own pkg of gum, a Justin Bieber poster for her room, or mom will come up to school and have lunch with you." This worked like a charm. Every kid is different and what we had been doing with Abby and Ethan simply didn't work with Emma. Sometimes my hubby is brilliant!
So this week Emma got three whites and lunch was her reward. Ethan had an awesome week at school as well so we visited with him also.
