Family Night

Once a week we set aside a night (also known as Family Home Evening or FHE), usually Monday nights, to spend time as a family. We like to play games and talk about a few gospel principle. This has been more challenging as the kids get older but we are trying to be diligent and follow council that has been given by our church leaders. It has helped setting this time aside and now we all look forward to spending this time together.

This week we were talking about how important it is to hold tight to the commandments of God. Things like scripture study, prayer, church, service, and family time keep us safe from all the temptations of the world. WE set up a little course and had the kids try to make it to the end blind-folded and holding on to a rope. Holding on to this rope was symbolic to keeping the commandments.

Gavin was the first to take "the walk". We blindfolded him and then spun him around. Abby guided him along while the others tried to distract him from getting to the end were there was a reward (M&M's). The kids would shout things like," It's ok if you let go Gavin, you can still make it." Gavin did not let go and he made sure to hold on to the rope with both of his hands.

We talked to the kids about how there might be friends and people out there that try and tell them they can let go of their values and everything will be ok. They might even make fun of them. We encouraged them to not listen and just hold tight to the teaching of the gospel.

Abby was relentless with Ethan. She kept taunting him to let go.
